I was so lucky and blessed to be asked to photograph an engagement session for Anneka and Jerry. The day was absolutely perfect. What an amazing couple!!!! A few days before the shoot, I suggested to Anneka and Jerry to check out some engagement photographs online and see what kind of photos are out there. It mentally prepares the person for what can be created and what possibilities exist.
(Yes!!!)
That is the beauty of doing some prep work and some research prior to a photo session. It allows the person to say "hmmm, I might try that look." Or "wow, if THAT guy/gal can do it, I too can shape my body by moving this way or that in order to make myself more flattering." Or "why not try that shirt on" or "why not wear these pants" to really make me and "us" shine.
I absolutely loved working with Anneka and Jerry and to tell the truth, it really wasn't much work. It was more like "play." As the sun was setting, it was getting colder and so was the water temperature. Despite this, Anneka and Jerry were absolute troopers and continued to go further and further into the water. First they got their feet wet, and by the end of the shoot they were both in, just above the knees.
The only coaching I gave was, "the more awkward and uncomfortable the pose, the better the photograph will look." I think it's an old adage said to professional models. Yet, it works!!! What a delight!! What joy!! What fun!!! What an amazing and exciting journey lies ahead!!!

Step 1) Work out for at least 30 minutes every day for 30 days.
Why 30 days? It takes 30 days to create a habit.
Will it hurt? It's YOUR pace. Usually, it's within the first 20 minutes when you want to give up. After 20 minutes you'll build momentum and as the saying goes "an object in motion stays in motion." Momentum baby!!!!
Step 2) Post a photo or video to your Facebook or blog.
Why? It make yourself accountable. If people see it, or rather, if they don't see you post, they will call you out. No one wants to be called out, so post.
Step 3) Repeat 1 and 2 for the next 30 days.
How can I make it fun?
-Wear a different hat every day for 30 days and show it off.
-Put on a new outfit that you are dying for everyone to see.
-Wear a t-shirt that you won at a race and tell the world about it.
-If you are video-taping then say something compelling and interesting like a quote or a proverb. Keep it absolutely fascinating.
-Change up your routine by doing a different exercise, like walking fast around and around and around the mall.
-Have your friend take a photo of you when you are looking unglamorous. No one is judging here. We are here to support.
-Remember, no one is forcing you, no one is making you do this. You are doing this because you choose to. THAT is power. That is accountability. THAT is responsibility. That is a start.
-Sure being on a treadmill or stationary bike can be monotonous and boring. Then watch a youtube video. Find a "how to" video and learn something. You can grow and exercise at the same time. I personally like motivational videos. One of my favorites is by Eric Thomas AKA ET The Hip Hop Preacher. Every Monday he does a 10-15 minute video entitled "Thank God It's Mondays." After watching that video 2-3 times, YOU are done with your workout. He has hundreds of videos to listen and watch. Very inspiring and it gets you pumped.
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY. WIYW What Is Your Why?
What is your WHY?
If you know what your WHY is, then you hold the key to your own success.
The "Why" will unlock all the doors.
The "why" will determine how hard you try.
The "why" will determine in which direction you go.
The "why" will get you up in the morning, rather, the "why" will make you WANT to get up early in the morning.
The "why" is the most important thing that if not known, is holding you back.
Once you know your "why" you become a focused and unstoppable laser beam. Full steam ahead.
You ain't "perishing" because YOU have a VISION, for as Proverbs goes: "Where there is not vision, the people perish." You are striving. You are succeeding.
Your why? To make your parents proud.
Your why? To get out of a bad relationship.
Your why? To be the best you.
Your why? To make a specific amount of a vast amount of money.
Your why? To buy a house for your mother.
Your why? To prove THEM wrong.
Your why? To be the first in your family to go to college, on a scholarship.
Your why? To travel the world.
Your why? To get a dream job.Your why? To have a six pack.
Your why? To acknowledge that I'm still looking for my why, but when I find it, world, watch out here I come.
Your why? To live a long and healthy life.
Your why? To be cancer free.
Your why? To prevent future health problems.
Your why? To be a role model for my kids, family, friends and co-workers.
Your why? To show I care.
Your why? To give it another try.
Your why? To wonder how far I can go just for 30 days.
Your why? To fully engage my mental as well as physical side.
Your why? To attract someone into my life that has similar qualities.
Your why? To become stronger.
Your why? To see if I've still got it.
Your why? To not be sick and tired of being sick and tired ANYMORE. Period.
Your why? To be in better shape than when I was in my twenties.
Your why? To be comfortable with my weight and have a strong and healthy heart through exercise.
Your why? To breathe fresh air.
Your why? To be independent when I'm considered by the world to be "old."
Your why? To be able to take care of myself when I'm in my late 90s.
Your why? To be able to still walk, run, jog, swim all by myself when I'm 110 years young.
WHAT IS YOUR WHY? Ask yourself this, write it down, write, write, write, ask yourself until you know deep down in your core, deep down in your soul, in your heart, throughout your body, what your "why" is. And when you do, awaken the giant within. Roar baby!!!!
Your high IQ and logic and all that stuff between your head is good, but it's what is in your heart, your passion, that will ultimately get you to climb up YOUR Mt. Everest or whatever that climb may be. How passionate is YOUR why? Sure you can make millions and millions and accumulate "stuff" until your house is bursting at the seams with "things." Sure, you'd like to leave an inheritance. But wouldn't you rather leave a LEGACY

I'm so excited to have a photo that I took in Kona, Hawaii of Kristin on her website "Betty Designs." Kristin designed the "skull and butterfly" design that you can see on the HOTTTTT pink uniform and trucker hat. Kristin Mayer's design is also on the ISM saddle as well as limited edition Kestrel Bicycles.
