Leanda Cave is a little over 2 miles away from the finish line at the Kona Ironman World Championship. Anything can happen in those last two miles.
On the center divide on the infamous Queen K. Highway is a lady, SCREAMING and YELLING, at THE top of her lungs. Even the aid station volunteers passing out ice, water, sponges, pretzels and Coke take notice to see what the noise is all about.
It's Leanda's triathlon coach, Coach Siri Lindley who is shouting in absolute joy and jubilation, "I'm soooooooo proud of you, I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo proud of you," again and again and again. All the cheering, dedication and coaching eventually paid off.
Leanda (GBR and Arizona native) came in 1st place (9:15:54) , beating Caroline Steffen from Switzerland by just over a minute (9:16:58). ((Top 10 results below.))
